May 14th - What Does God Require of You?

“And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8)

Humility is one of those characteristics that God likes in humans. Most of us have a hard time being humble because the world teaches us to be proud of wealth, success, or position.

But who does God esteem?

“. . . this is the one I esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit…” (Isaiah 66:2)

God prefers good old boys and girls, "humble" folks who are "contrite in spirit" (regretful when they hurt someone else).
They quietly "trust" Him to direct their path, even when His path takes them through difficult circumstances.

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6)

They pray in "private" for themselves and those they care about - short simple prayers.

“When you pray, don’t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get. But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as the nations do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again." (Matthew 6:5-7)

And when finished praying in private, they have a "peace" that they do not fully understand.

"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand." (Philippians 4:6-7)

God prefers humble people  - so I am working on it.
