October 17th - We Will Give An Account To God

“Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions...For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God...each one of us will give an account of himself to God.”...“Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.” (Romans 14:1-2, 12)

I have never met a human that did not sin but I know some who act like they do not. Such people make me angry, so I often have to remind myself that God IS LOVE, but humans are NOT.

“All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own.” (Isaiah 53:6)

“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” (Romans 3:23)

“God is Love…” (1 John 4:8)

“Love does not keep a record of wrongs…” (1 Corinthians 13:5)

“God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, He will certainly save us from His condemnation.” (Romans 5:8-9)

We all should be very careful about what we believe and teach about God.

“...whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ. Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a
variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.” (1 Corinthians 3:10-15)

Our self-righteous platitudes do not make us righteous before God – Jesus Christ alone has done that. And He sits at the right hand of God interceding for humanity.

“My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He Himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.”
 (1 John 2:1-2 NLT)

Self-righteous talk and acting will fuel the fire when we humans give account to God. Fortunately, however, our salvation is secure. It is by grace we are saved, not by self righteous works of those who think they are a bit better than everyone else.
