May 28th - What is the Holy Spirit?

This two-word phrase "Holy Spirit" is used over 90 times in the Greek New Testament and only three times in the Old Testament, once in Psalm 51 and twice in Isaiah 63.

As I understand Scripture, the Holy Spirit is not a person. It is the POWER coming out of God, the Father, and the Lord, Jesus Christ. Their power created all things.

“There may be so-called gods both in heaven and on earth, and some people actually worship many gods and many lords. But for us, there is one God, the Father, by whom all things were created, and for whom we live. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created, and through whom we live. However, not all believers know this.” (1 Corinthians 8:5-7 NLT)

The Holy Spirit is the POWER of God that enables human beings to hear and believe the gospel of their salvation and tell others about it.

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

The power of God is what will be used to create a New Heaven and New Earth.

“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind." (Isaiah 65:17)

"But in keeping with God's promise, we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells." (Peter 3:13)

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had passed away, and the sea was no more." (Revelation 21:1)

Love is the most powerful attribute of our omnipotent God. The power of His love is seen at Calvary. Love flowed as a river of living water out of the heart of God, through his Son Christ Jesus the Lord, for humanity to see.

"If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. But this He spoke concerning the SPIRIT.”  (John 7:37-39)

"So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in POWER; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a SPIRITUAL body.” (1 Corinthians 15:42-44)

“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the POWER that enables Him to bring everything under His control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body.” (Philippians 3:20-21)

When our bodies of flesh and blood are transformed into glorious new spiritual bodies, this same love will flow like rivers of living water from our new hearts for we will have become the image of Christ. The Holy Spirit, the power of God flowing through Christ Jesus into humanity will have won the Victory over death!
